evening_tsarI was asked today over Twitter "How many genders are there?" It took me a long time to understand what this had to do with what I had posted (an assertion that Trump was the last person to place any value on education). Until I perused said questioner's profile and found him to be a garden variety transphobe.
For such folk, ALL education is really about gender, specifically the strict maintenance of current norms. (Unless they make room for the inculcation of nationalism). Just as for the religious right, all religion is about not-fucking.
I wrestled with a number of possible responses, such as "as many as you want", or "I feel I'm about to find out" or "Three: yours, mine, and everyone else's", or "a x 2 + bx + c = 0". But in the end, left it alone. Responding to Tweets is a mug's game. No response will be adequate. Time will be wasted and tempers will be enflamed to no discernable gain. The recipient will most likely be a professional troll from a Russian bot-farm. (Whom I used to think I was fairly good at spotting, until I took this test https://spotthetroll.org/start.)
Like Nuclear War, the only way to win the social media game is not to play.
