Death of Stalin
Mar. 25th, 2018 02:17 pmJust watched "Death of Stalin". Brilliant. Some may question the use of humour to treat such grim subject matter; I would argue there really is no other way to do it. Soviet history is a farce. A tragic, heart-breaking, blood-soaked farce, but a farce all the same. A endless farago of idiocies, hypocrisies, paranoia and petty backstabbing. A horrific Monty-Python episode, the theme of which was to find the most absurd reasons possible for taking a human life. The silliest, stupidest, most ridiculous possible excuses to execute. The ideology behind it and the excuses for it are not worth taking seriously, not possible to dignify. It should all be treated like the grizzly joke it is.
It is no coincidence that "Death of Stalin" has already been banned in Russia. Tyrants don't like being laughed at.
